A career change that became a perfect fit!

After almost 15 years as a schoolteacher, becoming a software developer at TRIMIT wasn’t exactly the obvious next step for Lea Retoft Johansen.

When Lea decided it was time for something new, she returned to an interest she had had years earlier. She enrolled in the Computer Science programme at Dania in Skive, where one of her teachers shared a TRIMIT trainee position with the class.

“At first, I wasn’t sure it was for me. But I thought there was no harm in calling and asking what it was all about.”

That call led to a meeting – and eventually a trainee position at TRIMIT.


Learning by doing

Business Central and TRIMIT were new to Lea. Her trainee journey included Microsoft Reskill, a programme for people transitioning into software development., internal training and – importantly – real customer tasks from the beginning.

“I have actually worked with customer tasks almost from the beginning. The complexity has just increased gradually along the way.”

Just a few months after joining, she also passed her Microsoft developer certification.

Bringing experience into a new career

Lea may have changed careers, but the experience from almost 15 years as a schoolteacher still plays an important role in the way she works today.

According to Lars Møller Sørensen, Head of Development, Lea is a good listener, works well with others, takes responsibility and follows a task through to the end – qualities that are just as valuable in development as technical skills. It’s a combination that has made Lea a valued part of the team. And Lea herself has found that the way she likes to approach a challenge fits her new role well:

“I like the detective work – going into the details, understanding what’s happening and finding the right solution.”

That combination of curiosity, thoroughness and collaboration has helped Lea grow into her new role.


From classroom to code – and here to stay

Over time, Lea has taken on more tasks and responsibility – something that suits her well.

With her trainee journey complete, Lea is staying on at TRIMIT as a Developer.

Looking back, Lea is happy she took the chance and made the move from classroom to code.

“I definitely haven’t regretted the change.”

And at TRIMIT, we’re just as happy she did. We’re really happy to have Lea staying with us and continuing her journey as part of the team – now as a Developer.
